Dr. Dave Frye, Ed.D has over 20 years experience developing strategic, broad-scale initiatives and next-generation education systems that help to prepare students for the rapidly changing world they are living through. He is a product of innovative education programs, having first learned coding in his 4th grade classes in the early 80s, and he is passionate about all students having similar opportunities early and often in their lives to open new paths for their futures.
Most recently, Dr. Frye was Director of Programs at Code.org, where he led national education programs for US teachers, students, the Code.org Regional Partner network. Prior to Code.org, Dr. Frye worked at the intersection of policy, research, and practice at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at NC State University. He helped to develop a number of broad-scale programs, including CS4NC (the North Carolina Computer Science Education initiative) and an online teacher professional learning platform that reached over 120,000 educators in every state and over 80 countries. Dr. Frye has provided service as a member of the committee that created the first Computer Science Teacher Association Standards for CS Teachers, as a state leader for North Carolina in the Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Alliance, and as the founding chair of the board of the Institute for Advancing Computer Education.
Dr. Frye holds an Ed.D. and an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Youngstown State University (OH), and an A.A.S in Music from Onondaga Community College (NY). He lives in beautiful Door County, WI where he likes to spend his energy exploring the natural world around him, rebuilding classic cars, and enjoying life with his son Max and wife Carrie.
