Denise Russell Fleming is the Vice President of IT for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS). In this role she is responsible delivering business value through the creation and execution of IT strategy and roadmaps, customer advocacy, business strategy alignment and technology leadership. She also has responsibility for supporting the growth of Boeing’s business by partnering with the BDS team on IT-related revenue generating programs. Her team also focuses on delivering efficiencies for BDS programs leveraging data analytics and other technology enablers. Denise serves as member of the leadership teams of the CIO of The Boeing Company and also the President & CEO of BDS.
Before joining Boeing, Denise was the Vice President of Application Solutions at BAE Systems, Inc. In her role, she had responsibility for full lifecycle management of all IT applications supporting 30,000 employees. She was accountable for portfolio management, roadmap development, project management, implementation and maintenance of all corporate business systems. During the balance of her six year tenure at BAE Systems, Denise served as Vice President of Business Technology & Transformation where she was responsible for developing transformation strategies to align technology investment with business goals. She was focused on introducing enterprise-wide technology, governance and centralization of IT resources to deliver efficiency and cost savings. Fleming’s team was accountable for Strategy, Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio Management, business relationship managers and internal marketing of new IT capabilities to the business.
Previously, Fleming held several executive positions during her thirteen year career at Sprint Nextel. Her last role was Vice President of Network Service Management where she had global responsibility for operational performance and service quality of the wireline and wireless networks. Previous roles include executive positions in marketing strategy, customer care, sales engineering and program management for Sprint’s federal government business, P&L and operations for wireless service and repair in retail stores nationwide, strategic alliances and Chief of Staff for the Chairman & CEO. She also held an officer role with responsibility for managing the profitability for the company’s $6B wireline platform.
Ms. Fleming earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Virginia and an MBA from Duke University. She also completed an Advanced General Managers Program at the Insead Business School in Fontainebleau, France.
Fleming currently serves as the chair of the advisory board for Women in Engineering at the University of Maryland, is an active member of the Executive Leadership Council, serves an Executive Champion for Boeing Women In Leadership in the Potomac Region, was awarded the 2012 Women of Color Technology Award for Career Achievement in Industry and is a 2014 inductee into the Black Engineer of the Year Awards Hall of Fame.
