Support for Teachers, Role Models & Families

Training for Role Models

We offer training that helps role models develop a plan and presentation for successful visits to classrooms. We look to role models to show girls the interesting and useful applications for technology, science, and engineering.

It’s personal stories—told with passion and honesty—that help girls relate to role models and see technology and engineering in a new light. And just as important, role models talk to girls about more immediate matters like summer internships, financial aid, and college preparatory programs. These lessons are especially important for students in Techbridge, as many will be the first members of their family to attend college.

Training for Teachers

Introduce computers into the classroom and you are likely to find that some students jump right in while others hold back. Experience, interest, and gender are just a few of the factors that affect students' experiences with technology. Techbridge offers training and resources so teachers can effectively engage girls (and boys) in technology. Teachers meet once a month to share ideas and lessons learned, to network, and to plan curriculum. We believe that with the right support, teachers can engage girls in projects that appeal to their interests and have relevance in their lives so they will be more inclined to pursue technology and science in school and in the workforce.

Support for Families

Each year we offer families opportunities to celebrate the achievements of girls in Techbridge and to learn how they can support their daughters’ engagement in science and technology. Special Techbridge events for families are hosted at Chabot Space & Science Center and at participating schools. We have learned that Techbridge serves an important bridge that helps bring families to schools and over time, to the Science Center.
