"Your summer institute was one of the best that I've attended. Each of your staff members did a fantastic job. The curriculum that you've developed over the years was thoughtfully designed and you really delivered a nice overview of the program over the three day period." – Training Institute participant

Techbridge Summer Training
Institute 2008
Are you interested in developing a program to encourage girls' interest in technology and science?
Would you like to gain girl-tested, hands-on curriculum and learn strategies for success?
We invite you to participate in Chabot Space & Science Center's
Techbridge Summer Training Institute in Oakland, CA from August 4-6, 2008. This workshop will teach participants all facets of starting and successfully running a program in technology, science, and engineering for girls.
Since its founding, Techbridge has served over 2,000 girls in five school districts through after-school and summer programs. In 2005, Techbridge was selected by the National Science Foundation as its "model program demonstrating significant achievement."
With 10 years of experience developing girls programs and working with teachers, parents and role models and corporate partners, we designed the Techbridge Summer Training Institute to share best practices and lessons learned while providing the tools, framework and curriculum for achieving success.
Topics covered will include:
-
Mission and underlying philosophy - why we do it, and how we accomplish our mission
-
Structuring the program model - what works well, what doesn't and lessons learned
-
Critical success factors for launching and maintaining a successful technology program for girls
-
Recruitment - strategies for recruiting and retaining girls
-
Curriculum - training on our innovative curriculum developed specifically for girls. Each participant will receive a binder & CD-ROM including a year's worth of lesson plans for hands-on projects such as Green Design, Cars & Engines, and Electronics and Circuitry
-
Role models and field trips - how to best use role models and corporate partners to help inspire girls towards technology and science careers. We will share lessons learned on planning classroom visits, training role models, and structuring field trips to ensure effective and engaging interactions
-
Budgeting and fundraising - how to budget program expenses and tips for fundraising
-
Evaluation - designing surveys and collecting feedback
-
Action planning - participants will have a concrete action plan for implementation
A registration fee will allow participants to attend the 3-day Training Institute, and take home Techbridge's hands-on curriculum. The registration fee for one participant is $750; for two participants from the same organization, the fee is $500 each. Due to the hands-on nature of the curriculum, we highly encourage two participants from your organization to attend the training. Registration deadline is June 30, 2008. Register early as spaces are limited!
We hope you will join us in making a difference for the future girls of technology, science, and engineering! For inquiries and/or further information, please contact Jennifer Wei at Jwei@chabotspace.org or 510.777.9170 ext. 308.
