Roosevelt Middle School
The first few weeks at Roosevelt Middle School were filled with engineering design challenges. First the girls tried to see who could make the strongest structure out of gum drops and tooth picks. The girls developed many interesting ideas, but after building their own and surveying other girls' structures, the girls learned that triangle shapes make the strongest support. Learning about chemical engineering, the girls mixed glue and Borax to see what was the best formula for the bounciest ball. In the solar jar project, they used solar panels and LED circuits to convert glass jars into portable night lights. The girls are looking forward to learning about animation and making their own short claymation movies.
