Techbridge students cite the lasting impact of interactions with role models and field trips to role models' work sites on their academic and career choices. Through our many years of experience working with role models, we have designed effective strategies for making role models' outreach and field trips a success.
Role models tell their personal stories with passion and honesty, helping girls see science, technology, and engineering in a new light. They also talk to girls about more immediate matters like summer internships, financial aid, and college preparatory programs. This information is especially important for Techbridge girls, as many will be the first members of their family to attend college.
Resource Guide and Toolkit
With funding from Google, we developed a resource guide to help role models and corporations host effective classroom visits and worksite field trips. A toolkit CD supplements this guide, containing sample hands-on activities, icebreaker activities, a Future Engineer Certificate, and other resources to make outreach fun and engaging.
