Techbridge at Frick has gotten off to a wonderful start this year! The girls have again proven how exciting Techbridge can be as we have welcomed over 35 new and returning students to the program this year. After starting the year with a series of design challenges meant to get students to think creatively and communicate, we have started a unit in Computer Science. The girls have learned the basics of HTML, explored the Scratch program, and will soon welcome a software engineer from Kaiser Permanente.
The girls also had a blast during their recent field trip to Google headquarters in Mountain View, CA. They were able to make an application for a Google Android phone, learn how computers sort information, and take a tour of the Google campus. The girls got the chance to talk to role models their about what they do on a typical day working for Google, and they were very excited to hear that in addition to having very interesting jobs, Googlers get free food for lunch!
The girls are looking forward to exploring circuitry and soldering and reverse engineering. Check back for updates on these exciting new projects!
