The girls at Edendale Middle School learned all about electrical engineering: from soldering, resistors, capacitors and LEDs, to the follow of current from batteries. For Halloween, they used these skills to build LED-lit jack-o'-lanterns. For the holidays, they soldered simple circuits to light up wrapping paper.

They transitioned to chemical engineering, perfecting recipes for lip balm and devising marketing strategies for their products.

The girls also received a visit from a role model from UC Berkeley. During the visit, the girls learned about polymers and experimented with various materials to see who could concoct the bounciest ball.
