With the help of veteran Techbridge teachers, Julie Ramirez and Suzanne Evans, Techbridge is off to a running start this year at Bohannon.  With a nice mix of returning Techbridgers and new friends, we have started the year with interesting design challenges to help the girls learn how to work together.  The group enjoyed the Slowest Lander activity, in which the girls used office and craft supplies to design a device that would lower a small action figure as slowly as possible.

The girls also got a taste of the engineering design process with a product design challenge.  Girls learned about the parts of a catapult and were challenged to build one out of popsicle sticks, rubber bands and a small paper cup.  Girls learned how engineers brainstorm ideas, build a prototype, test their prototype, and then go back and redesign based on the test results.  The girls created some products that could launch a ping pong ball all the way across the classroom!

The girls will continue to explore the design process later this year with role models from UC Berkeley. For the third year, Techbridge is partnering with the Alumni Office of the College of Engineering to bring alumni and students to Techbridge after-school programs. Check back soon for updates on more exciting projects underway at Bohannon!
