Oakland Unity High School
This year Oakland Unity High School started off with a bang. Over 40 girls attended the first Techbridge meeting. This was a great opportunity for Techbridge to expose these girls to a variety of engineering careers through the bubble design challenge. The number of girls interested in Techbridge was so overwhelming that the class was divided into two rooms. Mechanical and Material engineers worked in Mr. Driscoll's science classroom while Marketing worked in Ms. Craig's room. Quality Control worked between both classrooms while testing the durability and quality of their teams' bubbles outside. For many of these girls this was the first time they had ever heard of a chemical, material, and quality control engineer. Activities like this one provide a glimpse into the work of engineers and helps expand the career options for Techbridge girls.
The enthusiasm for Techbridge at Unity continues as the girls work on new design challenges like Radio Active golf balls and Egg Bungee. What's next for these girls? Animation. The girls will create short animation movies using stop motion technology.
