Holbrook Elementary School
Thanks to the generous support of Chevron Techbridge has begun a program at Holbrook Elementary School n Concord . From the start this program has generated a lot of interest among the girls who are eager to learn about science and technology. The design challenges introduced at the start of the year have prepared the girls for a favorite Techbridge project—toy design. The girls started off by making their own clocks and learning how the different gears work together to record time. It was complicated and at times frustrating, but in the end the reward of having their very own clock made all the challenges worthwhile. Lessons in perseverance are important and Techbridge teaches girls how to problem solve and keep trying. A lesson on reverse engineering will give the girls a chance to dissect toys and discover what makes the toys they love work. This experience will be helpful when they design and build a prototype of their own toy. The girls from Holbrook will visit Chevron to learn about their toy department, which will be an interesting follow-up to the toy design project. Everyone at Holbrook is excited about Techbridge and look forward to the hands-on projects and career exploration activities.
