Bohannon Middle School
The girls at Bohannon started their exploration into animation with a Flip Book project. They worked in pairs to perfect their Post It note flip books that demonstrated simple motions, such as throwing a ball or a leaf blowing in the wind. This introduction prepared the girls for the creation of their own 30 second claymation movies.
They spent a week brainstorming a storyline, illustrating a backdrop, and creating their own characters and props out of colorful clay. Then, they embark on a two week challenge of bringing those clay figures to life using web cams, laptops and a computer program. Their completed projects include a movie about Pac Man, a hamburger falling from the sky, scoring a goal in a soccer game, and a girl dancing the night away. Projects like this one build girls' confidence in technology and give them the skills to take on more advanced computer projects.
