With a wonderful combination of newcomers and girls who have been part of Techbridge for two, three, and even five years, the group at Oakland Tech been working on a series of projects around environmental engineering. A visit from UC Berkeley Civil and Environmental Engineering undergraduates Sofia Hamilton and Carly Schaeffer included making a worm compost and an in-depth conversation about applying for colleges.  As one Oakland Tech student put it, "It was interesting how they explained their college life.  It makes me think that it may be hard, but fun."

The girls were also treated to a visit by Carrie del Boccio, an environmental engineer with RMC Water and Environment. The girls took part in a water purification activity, learning about how coagulation, filtering, and disinfecting are all part of getting  clean water into your home.

Each girl built her own wind turbine as well. Everyone learned a lot about the engineering process and redesigning during this project.
